On Monday, August 21, we will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse at approximately 10:34 am. If you want your child to watch the eclipse outside, we will have some supervision provided. The student will need a signed permission slip and the proper eclipse viewing eyewear. You will need to send the eyewear and permission slip with your child no later than Friday, August 18 if you want them to go outside. Please note that the eyewear must be ISO 12312-2 certified by the International Safety Standard. These should be purchased from a reputable dealer as there are scam artists selling these and making fake certification emblems. Reputable vendors can be found at www.eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters. Sunglasses will not work. Please note that if a student’s eyewear is not properly certified or is scratched or wrinkled, the student could experience permanent retinal damage. The school will do its best to supervise the children, but you will need to warn your children not to take off the glasses while viewing the eclipse.
Permission slips were sent home with students today, and both the permission slips and glasses will need to be turned in by Friday, August 18Archway Trivium West will not accept permission slips and glasses on Monday, August 21. We will share an internet feed with the rest of the students who remain indoors so they can also watch from a safer location.
