Solar Eclipse Viewing Plan for Archway Trivium West

August 17, 2017 -

A partial solar eclipse will occur on Monday, August 21, during the school day. We prefer for students to stay indoors to watch the online viewing of the eclipse because this is the safest option, however we also want to offer an outside viewing for the families who have expressed significant interest in this option. For outdoor viewing, we are taking all precautionary measures with both students and staff to make this experience both safe and enjoyable.

On August 21, at 10:30 am, Archway Trivium West students who turned in a permission slip and approved eyewear prior to 12:30pm on Friday, will be permitted to view the solar eclipse from the north end of the field.

Students will remain outside from 10:30-10:40am. Students who remain indoors will view the eclipse via live stream, as long as there are no technical issues.

Permission slips and eyewear should be turned in to the classroom teacher. If you are not able to send the glasses with permission slip with your child by Friday morning, there is one other option: Parents may drop off a white envelope with one child’s name/teacher name, containing one pair of approved eclipse eyewear and one completed permission slip (for the same child) to the front office, between 8:30am-12:30pm on Friday 8/19. The office staff will make sure that both items are in the envelope prior to parent leaving the office. Parents may drop off the individual envelopes for other children outside their family, but the envelopes still must contain both items for one child. Approved protective eyewear and permission slips will not be received after 12:30 pm on Friday or at any time on Monday.

Safety is a top priority. For safety reasons, Archway Trivium West (K-5) students will remain indoors from 9:30-11:30am. If your student has an appointment, please avoid checking them in/out during this window of time. This protects students who do not have appropriate eyewear from walking between the Archway and Admin buildings, and it also allows our staff to remain indoors if they so choose. Parents whose students turned in a permission form and eyewear on/before Friday at 12:30pm are welcome to attend the Eclipse Viewing, and should meet their student on the field (if meeting your student on the field, you DO NOT need to check into the front office).

Students who are checked out of school prior to 9:30am, or are absent from school on the day of the Eclipse Viewing, may NOT be outdoors on school grounds at any time between 9:30-11:30am on Monday 8/21/17.
